About The Bayard School

The Bayard School, home of the “Bulldogs,” is located at 200 South Dupont Street in Wilmington, Delaware. As a public elementary and middle school within the Christina School District, Bayard caters to students in grades 1-8 with a commitment to deliver a comprehensive and systematic school program, ensuring impeccable instruction and providing essential resources for all students to achieve academic success and age-appropriate social development. To enhance learning experiences, The Bayard School goes the extra mile by incorporating an additional hour each day for academic support and/or enrichment into our schedule.

School Principal Spotlight

Suzanne Wong

A native of California, Ms Wong joined the Christina School District as principal of The Bayard School after 6 years as a school leader in Title I Schools in the Greater Los Angeles area. Ms. Wong was instrumental in implementing focused instructional practices, Restorative Practices, and building high-performing teams to ensure a quality school experience for every child. A highly successful teacher for 26 years; Ms Wong recognizes literacy as the key to successful learning and seeks to open the door to reading for every child.

Principal Wong holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of California and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and a Master of Arts in Education and Reading from California State University.

Ms Wong’s philosophy of education is perfectly aligned to the direction of Wilmington Learning Collaborative. Both are focused on creating true community schools for students, staff, and families. The actions framed in the WLC and those of Ms Wong’s Educator Leadership Team and Parent Teacher Organization provide support for every scholar linking students, families, schools, and the community. 

Well-versed in research, Ms Wong has focused the efforts of her team on bringing joy into learning while identifying paths for children to rise to their highest potential. The Bayard School targets serving every scholar with academic support, athletics, enrichment, and the arts before, during, and after school.
